| Caïna | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Caïna is Andrew Curtis-Brignell and the project was formed in late 2004. His brother Jon plays bass for him, when he feels like it. Discography Albums: Some People Fall (2006) Mourner (2007) Temporary Antennae (2008) EPs/splits: I, Mountain (2007) The Heart of the Master (2007) Krieg/Caïna split 7" (2009) Caïna/Process of Guilt split 10" (2009) Caïna EP (2009) Popmatters say: "Curtis-Brignell’s acknowledgement of the beauty of nature proof that there’s a whole lot more to black metal than merely wearing corpsepaint and pouting in your bedroom. There’s such vividness and openness to his music, and today’s more adventurous black metal as a whole, than there ever was before, and with this album, Caïna is now steadfastly at the forefront of the movement." Metal Hammer say: "File under abstract psychadelic art school black metal. Also file under intruiging engaging and ultimately rewarding. While it will infuriate purists, Caïna actually stays truer to the twilit, introspective nature of the genre than your average Kohl-eyed johnny-come-lately. Bleak ambience from a UKBM visionary." Zero Tolerance say: "Temporary Antennae is the masterpiece that Andrew Curtis-Brignell's work has so far been hinting at...a hugely satisfying piece of work...the sound of a unique artist truly fulfilling his potential" (album of the issue) Musique Machine say: "...perfectly conceived, recorded and executed...really and truly if you enjoy any kind of creative and emotion-tinged guitar music, you need this. Unmissable in every sense. Rock-A-Rolla say: "Keeping the atmospherics and bleak worldview of his black metal roots, Caïna leaves the genre's Magna Carta of extremity smouldering in its wake...too melodic to remain in a drift like much of the music deemed to have been touched by post-rock's hand, something invested with this much humanity can't have been created by a true misanthrope. A vital musical project." myspace official site | |
